Abstract:

This is an SDE feature class representing the bedrock geology of Michigan. The file was created from a feature class originally created in ArcMAP. The data for the feature class was chiefly drawn from the 1987 Bedrock Geology map of Michigan. The polygons in the file show the formations that make up the bedrock of Michigan. The SDE feature class covers only the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan. There is no symbology differentiating the various formations included in the file. See additional information on symbology in "Supplemental Information" below.

Purpose:

To provide academia, consultants, professional geologists, and the public with a visual aid in the study of the geology of the Michigan Basin. It is meant for macrostudies of the Basin. At scales larger than "Section" the data can be considered less accurate.

Supplemental_Information:

Symbology used to depict the bedrock formations in the Michigan Basin 1987 Bedrock Geology SDE feature class is in the "Bedrock_Geology_New_Colors.lyr". Bob reszka has modified some of the colors of the symbology from the original 1978 map to create a greater differentiation in the symbology and to correct small errors in geology.
