Individual county first water contour datasets represent the elevation of the first water (water table) in 10-foot intervals across the landscape. Each first water contour dataset was created using the contour function in ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, version 8.3.

This dataset is intended to give a general overview of the first water (water table) elevation for the purposes of groundwater management.

The accuracy of the contours were not tested for accuracy, except by visual inspection. Furthermore, for the purpose of creating smoother contours and removing extraneous data, contours were created from a generalized first water surface. This resulted in less precise, but more readable, contour data.

Using the Neighborhood Statistics function in ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, created a generalized First Water grid using a 5 x 5 filter. Using Spatial Analyst, created 10-foot contours from the generalized grid.
