Initial identification of valley segments and segment boundaries using key map features (elevation, wetland, surficial geology, stream networks, lakes, land cover maps were integrated) to check for potential abrupt changes in the physical boundaries against info on fish distributions and field experience

Dynamic segmentation was used to break the RF3 linework (which has been improved over the previous version of RF3), and the Reach Indexing Tool (developed by the Research Triangle Institute) was used to assign the linework the VSEC ID.
