| Narrative Description |
The Isaac Brown House is a fine example of the Italianate style. Narrow and square in its massing, the two-story brick house has an L-shaped front with a small entrance porch in the angle. The facade features paired windows with limestone lintels carved with seashell and leaf motifs and a bay window, composed of tall, narrow, round-headed windows accented with heavy, pipe-like moldings. The entrance porch has square posts (resting on paneled bases) and arched openings. The front double doors are original. Both the projecting bay and the porch are embellished with openwork railings at the roofline.

| Statement of Significance |
The Isaac Brown House is a locally significant example of Italianate residential architecture. Its original owner, Isaac A. Brown, arrived in Kalamazoo around the start of the Civil War. For the next several decades he was employed as a loan agent for eastern firms and as a dealer in real estate. He financed several downtown blocks and, in 1867, had this home built.
