| Narrative Description |
The Appeldorn House is a two-story, frame, L-plan, Queen Anne structure with a small open porch in the angle of the ell. The facade is composed of a projecting gable which is visually balanced by a steeply pitched roof, under which the one-story, open porch is placed. The high, jerkinhead, front gable is cantilevered over the beveled-corner first floor. The second story of the gable is sheathed in fishscale shingles. The open porch has Colonial Revival posts and balustrade.

| Statement of Significance |
The Appeldorn House is a highly individualistic and unusual residence and is one of the most ornamental and aesthetically successful of the city's more modest Queen Anne houses. The residence was constructed in 1895 for Peter B. Appeldorn. After coming to Kalamazoo in the 1850s, Appeldorn established a successful tannery and shoe shop which his sons carried on. The descendants of Peter Appeldorn lived in the house until World War II.
