| Narrative Description |
The Colon Seminary - Lamb Knit Goods Company building is a large, irregularly shaped, two and three-story, brick structure containing elements constructed at different time periods between 1862 and the early twentieth century. The central, hip roof, three story portion of the structure, crowned with a hip-roof cupola, was built in 1863 to house the Colon Seminary. The gable roof extensions were constructed after the 1889 purchase of the property by the Lamb Knit Goods Company.

| Statement of Significance |
The Colon Seminary was started in 1858 by six citizens who desired a higher grade of education for their children than was to be obtained at the Township public schools. The six organized the Colon Seminary Company with only themselves owning stock. The Company started with a frame building and 70-100 students in 1858, but by 1862 they had outgrown their facilities and commissioned a larger structure. The new three-story, brick building was dedicated in 1863 and served the Seminary until it ceased operation in 1867. From 1867-1889 the local school district occupied the Seminary building. In 1889 the Lamb Knit Goods Company took over the building until 1972. The complex which currently houses furniture and antique shops is a central element in the educational, industrial, and architectural history of Colon.
