Abstract:

This layer represents the geographic extent of the area within the State of Michigan that is subject to the Michigan Coastal Zone Management Program. Generally, the Michigan Coastal Zone Management Boundary extends inland a minimum of 1,000 feet from the ordinary high water mark. The inland boundary extent varies in some locations to appropriately accommodate coastal resources such as coastal lakes, river mouths and embayments, floodplains, wetlands, dunes, urban areas, and public parks, recreation and natural areas. The lakeward boundary extends to the state/international boundary. For a more detailed boundary description, see the "State of Michigan Coastal Management Program and Final Environmental Impact Statement" commonly referred to as the Program Document. This digital map layer is intended for use only as a planning and overview resource. It is derived from the official hardcopy maps housed within the Coastal Zone Management Program's Lansing, Michigan office. Please contact the Michigan Coastal Zone Management Program for site specific information or verification regarding the location of the boundary with respect to a specific area.
